Assessments

Autism Spectrum Disorder

An assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex process that involves the evaluation of multiple domains of functioning and behaviour. ASD presents quite differently among different people and shares similar behaviours with other disorders including social anxiety disorder, ADHD, OCD, and social communication disorder. Therefore, an individual can easily be given an incorrect diagnosis. At AMHA, we adhere to the best practices to screen for a wide variety of disorders to ensure we have the correct answer.

For a child, adolescent, or a young adult, the assessment process typically includes an intake interview, administration of multiple assessments (includes ADOS-2 and ADI-R among others), multiple clinical interviews, thorough reviews of all previous assessments and school records, and administration of standardized questionnaires. A follow up meeting to share results and provide the final report will be arranged.

Attention Deficit Disorder

An assessment for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) involves the evaluation of an individual’s cognitive abilities, executive functioning, behavioural difficulties, and symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. Symptoms seen in ADHD can be mimicked by many neurodevelopmental and other mental health disorders. Therefore, a thorough assessment will be conducted to investigate other possibilities when assessing for ADHD.

For a child, adolescent, or a young adult, the assessment process typically includes an intake interview, administration of multiple assessments, multiple clinical interviews, thorough review of all previous assessments and school records, and administration of standardized questionnaires. A follow up meeting to share results and provide the final report will be arranged.

Psycho-education

Psychoeducational assessments address any concerns regarding your or your child's learning and academic progress. A comprehensive assessment provides a better understanding of your or your child's cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses.

The assessment process typically includes an intake interview, administration of standardized measures (including measures of intelligence and academic abilities among others), and a thorough review of all previous assessments and school records. A follow up meeting to share results and provide the final report will be arranged.
